Harbor Basin & Berthing Facilities
The Davao Fish Port Complex features a well-protected harbor basin covering approximately 2.5 hectares, providing a safe and secure environment for fishing vessels operating within the port. Designed to support the region’s thriving fisheries industry, the harbor basin can accommodate 40 to 45 commercial fishing vessels at any given time, with an average capacity of 75 Gross Registered Tonnage (GRT) per vessel.
To ensure calm waters and safe harbor operations, the basin is protected by two breakwaters. The North Breakwater extends 125 lineal meters, while the South Breakwater stretches 225 lineal meters, providing shelter from waves and adverse weather conditions. The harbor basin is further reinforced by approximately 480 lineal meters of revetment, helping protect the shoreline and port infrastructure.
For navigational safety, two sets of beacon lights are strategically located at the harbor entrance to guide incoming and outgoing vessels, particularly during nighttime operations and periods of reduced visibility.
The port’s berthing facilities consist of a Landing Quay with a total length of 235 lineal meters, including 160 meters parallel to the market hall and 75 meters perpendicular to it. These facilities allow efficient vessel docking, fish unloading, loading of supplies, and other port-related activities.
Complementing these facilities is a quayside fuel station operated by a private service provider, offering convenient refueling services to fishing vessels and supporting uninterrupted fishing operations.
As a vital component of the Davao Fish Port Complex, the harbor basin serves as the primary gateway for commercial fishing activities, facilitating fish landing, transshipment, vessel servicing, and the movement of fisheries products. Its strategic design and support facilities help ensure efficient port operations while contributing to the growth and sustainability of the fisheries industry in Region XI.
