Water Supply System
An essential and fundamental component in port operations is a good (in terms of quality) and efficient supply of water. DFPC prides itself in being able to meet both requirements. The principal source of fresh water at the DFPC are two deep-well pumps where water is drawn and deposited in a reservoir with a rated capacity of 150 cubic meters. From the reservoir, water is pumped to a pressure tank, passing through an automatic chlorinating machine, from which it is supplied to fishing vessels, fish processors and other port clients via an underground piping system. Thus, good quality and efficient delivery is attained. To guarantee that good quality is maintained, water from the system is regularly submitted, for microbiological and chemical analysis, to the Davao City Water District. As pointed out earlier, this is the very reason why the DFPC produces good quality block ice.
Waste-Water Treatment Facility
The Davao Fish Port Complex operates a modern Wastewater Treatment Facility (WWTF) to ensure that wastewater generated within the port is properly treated before being safely discharged into the environment. As an industrial fish port, the facility plays a vital role in protecting public health, preserving marine ecosystems, and supporting sustainable port operations.
The WWTF utilizes the Activated Sludge Process, a proven biological treatment system that efficiently removes organic pollutants from wastewater. The facility consists of a lift station (septic tank), two aeration tanks, one sedimentation tank, one sludge collection tank, and four sludge drying beds, all working together to deliver effective wastewater treatment.
Wastewater from fish processing plants and other port establishments is first collected at the lift station and then pumped into the aeration tanks. Here, naturally occurring aerobic microorganisms break down organic matter through continuous aeration. The treated wastewater then flows into the sedimentation tank, where solid particles settle and are separated from the clarified water. The resulting treated water is safely discharged in compliance with environmental standards, while the collected sludge is processed and dried in designated sludge drying beds for proper disposal.
